How Essential Oils Can Help ADHD

Jump to:

Edited 1/22/19. Please note that there are many good essential oils out there. See this article for more information.

Pure therapeutic grade essential oils, like doTERRA can be useful in treating ADHD symptoms because they contain small (natural) chemical components that can cross the blood – brain barrier and directly treat the brain.

Lavender, for instance, can be effective for restlessness, anxiety, improved concentration and mood stabilization.

Similar studies have also been done on vetiver and cedar wood oils with even more impressive results.

Vetiver showed a 100% improvement in brain scans, cedar wood 83% and lavender 60%.

Lavender is calming and good for stress relief and insomnia. I prefer adding my essential oils to a carrier oil before applying them. Just add about 5 or 6 drops of the essential oil to a carrier oil like almond, olive or even castor oil. Coconut oil is also a good one. You can apply this to the temple, neck or soles of feet. Be sure to buy a good quality oil; lavender is one that is often compromised.

Cedar wood is a healing oil mentioned in the Bible. It helps with brain synergy and stimulates brain function as well. Dilute a few drops in a carrier oil and apply to the neck or forehead.

Vetiver is good for depression as well as brain function. It has an unusual, but not unpleasant, smell and some may even feel it’s effects just from smelling it. Otherwise add a few drops to a carrier oil and apply to the back of the neck or soles of feet.

Frankincense is another good oil for brain function and ADHD. It has been shown to have a positive effect on learning disorders, depression, and mental ability. Again, add to a carrier oil and apply to the back of the neck or soles of the feet.

You should also be aware that you can blend any or all of these oils together to make an even more powerful formula. With some trial and error, you can figure out which ones work best for you.
