Do you have a bad attitude?

Actually, it might be more accurate to ask if you have a negative attitude or mindset.

Do you find yourself thinking more negative thoughts than positive ones?

If this sounds or looks like you, I’ve got a few suggestions for you.

Obviously you want to change your attitude from a negative one to a positive one. And if you want some more information on that, be sure to check out my article at ADDitude Magazine’s website.

Changing your mindset starts by noticing when you are thinking negative thoughts and then stop and reword what you were thinking.

Did you know that the part of your brain that controls things like the fight or flight response, emotions, emotional behavior, and motivation also believes everything you tell it?

It’s true.

It takes what you say and think about yourself at face value. It accepts it as truth even if it isn’t.

Think about that.

What have you been telling your brain?

That you’re fat? Or dumb? Or clumsy, ugly, incompetent?

Let’s say you tell yourself that you’re fat.

Your brain believes it.

So when you try to go on a diet, your fight or flight response kicks in and does everything in it’s power to make you eat, because you are fat and you need the food. It will even begin to store fat as a defense mechanism.

You need to learn to change your thinking fast!

Now of course you can do this yourself for free, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

But there area also all sorts of apps and websites out there that can help you achieve that positive mindset in a more reliable and efficient way.

Here are a couple to get you started:

  • Thinkup is an app for the iPhone that allows you to record yourself saying positive things – they even give some great suggestions – and then listen to them as often as you want. They say that the sound of your own voice is the most powerful one for you. I have tried this one and I like it a lot. You can record up to 5 affirmations for free; for up to 15, the price is $3.99.
  • Happify is a website and app (for iOS) with games and activities designed to make you happier. It was put together with the help of scientists and expert in their field and it is free. I tried this one and frankly it just confused me, but you may like it. It has gotten great reviews.
  • Smiling Mind is an app for either iOS or Android and it is free although they do suggest a donation. It says that it is “…a modern meditation for young people” and that it will promote clarity, calm, and contentment. I did the trial version and liked it, but the app was developed in Australia, so you need to decide whether or not the accent will bother you.
  • Unique Daily Affirmations is an app for both operating systems that lets you view positive affirmations any time you want. You can choose a new one each time or use the same one for a while. You can even add your own. There is a free and paid version. This is not one that I have tried, but the reviews look good.

Having a positive mind set is so much more important than you realize. Try it and watch your life change for the better.
