ADHD Medications: Side Effects

Someone asked me the other day about the side effects associated with ADHD medications. Almost any medication you take has the potential for side effects; whether or not you experience them isn’t certain until you try it. However, people who take medications for ADHD often seem to experience side effects, at least at first.

There are some generalized side effects associated with most ADHD medications, and some specific to a certain brand. Generalized side effects include: headache, stomach ache, feeling “weird”, feeling tired, lack of sleep, lack of appetite, weight loss, anxiety and dryness of the mouth.

Summarized below are some common ADHD medications along with their associated side effects:

Adderall
Anxiety, nervousness, being restless, delayed growth, dry mouth, unpleasant taste in the mouth, constipation or diarrhea.

Concerta
Headache, stomach ache, lack of sleep, delayed growth, weight loss, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, increased blood pressure and delusional thinking.

Ritalin
Lack of sleep, anxiety, delayed growth, allergic reactions, such as skin rashes or hives, joint pain, extreme weight loss, nausea, dizziness, headaches, anxiety, irregular heartbeat, changes in blood pressure, and drowsiness.

Strattera

Vyvanse
