As You Are

The other day on Facebook, I asked my friends what they wanted to know about ADHD. One replied, “How not to have it!”.

OK, I guess I understand that. Although I have said before that given the choice, I would still chose to be ADHD, I can understand how it does make life more difficult at times.

I’ve always stayed away from the topic of religion on this blog – partly because it isn’t relevant to ADHD, but also because I didn’t want to offend anyone.

I tend to be very sensitive when it comes to religious thought – my friends go from one end of the religion spectrum to another – and I try to respect them all.

I’m not sure my atheist friends would agree with me, but I think that the rest of you – regardless of what you believe – believe that we are here for a purpose and that while we all have our flaws, we are made as we are supposed to be. Does that make sense?

So OK – you can see your ADHD as a “flaw”, a “deficit” or “disorder” if you choose – but do you really believe that you came to be on this earth as a “factory defect”? Should we have sent you to Odd Lots because you were a little bit imperfect? (We’re all imperfect, ADHD or not).

It’s OK to know that because you have ADHD you have some limitations. You may have poor short term memory or a tendency to speak without thinking, but those are simply things you have been put on this earth to deal with. Everyone has a cross to bear, right? My dad doesn’t have ADHD, but he is legally blind. I’ll take my ADHD, thanks.

Am I making any sense here? Cause I feel like I’m rambling.

All I want to say is that I think you are just fine as you are.
