Dairy and ADHD

There has been continuing research over the last few years that suggest that a diet that is gluten and casein free can help minimize ADHD symptoms.

Gluten is found in grains like wheat, barley and rye. Casein is found in dairy products.

I eat gluten free because I have a condition called Celiac disease.

Recently I had a chance to talk to the owner of a new gluten free market in my town. One of the things that we talked about was the effects of both gluten and dairy on ADHD.

Both of us knew people with ADHD who had gone to a gluten and dairy free diet and had very positive results.

I mentioned that I had been having trouble with brain fog lately and he asked if I ate dairy free. I had to confess that I did not.

I recently started a new healthier lifestyle, adding more exercise and healthier foods to my life. I decided to cut back on dairy, partly for my ADHD but more for my waistline.

I made the change on Saturday, and I have to tell you, the longer I stay (almost) dairy free, the clearer my mind becomes.

Most of what I have eliminated is cheese, which I was eating several times a day. I have not eliminated dairy altogether, just lessened my consumption.

I first noticed the difference a couple of days ago; I did not start my exercise program until today.

You might want to take a look at your diet and see if making a change in dairy might make a difference for you.
