Do You Really Use It?

We all have so much stuff in our lives, don’t we?

And as ADD Moms, we struggle to keep our homes and lives in order with all of that stuff.

Think about the stuff in your house:

    The “fat” clothes and the “skinny” ones
    The clothes you’re saving for another child to grow into
    Kitchen utensils and other kitchen stuff (When my mom passed away, we found 17 punch cups in her cupboard. Who needs 17 punch cups?)
    Toys
    Books and magazines
    Shoes

I could go on, but you get the idea.

Think how much easier it would be to keep your home in order if you didn’t have all that stuff.

Here is a relatively easy way to sort through what you use and what you don’t.

If the clothes in your closet are a problem, start by turning all of the coat hangers around the other way. Most of us hang our clothes by hooking the hanger over the front of the rod. (Does that make sense? This way it’s easy to grab something and go.)

So now you’re going to point the hanger part towards you, slide the hanger under the rod and then hang it from the back.

Every time you take something down to wear it, when you put it back, hang it the front way (top picture). After a few weeks you will have a clear idea of what you wear and what you don’t. Now it’s easy to clear out what you don’t need.

But what if your clutter isn’t clothing hanging on a rod?

You can still do the same kind of thing; in fact, it’s even easier.

Find a box or container that will hold whatever it is that you’re sorting through: kitchen stuff, toys, etc.

Dump all of it into the container and put it near where you use it.

Now each time you use something from the box, when you get done, put it back into the drawer or box it was originally in.

A few weeks later, not only have you sorted and kept only the things you use, but your box is already packed to take to your local charity.
