Home Ec 101

Yesterday in my post about one armed housecleaning, I mentioned that I have found a great new blog.

It’s called Home Ec 101 and it’s got just about everything you need to learn about cleaning, cooking, fixing things and washing them.

Here’s what part of what Heather, the owner, says about her site:

Home-Ec 101 is an attempt to reach average people and teach them the domestic arts that make life a little less expensive, a little easier, and a little more enjoyable.

One of my favorite parts about this site is the Weekly Chore Schedule.

As ADD Moms, we struggle with keeping our house clean and organized and following this chart could only help.

One of the things that I like about it is that there are two kinds of chores that you do each day: big ones and little ones. That alone makes it feel less overwhelming.

I also like the fact that each day has a theme – floors, errands, bathrooms, etc. Thats a really good and easy way to make sure things get done on a regular basis.

I mean, if you decide to do your floors once a week, and one week you do them on Monday and the next week on Friday, that’s really almost two weeks in between cleaning. And you know what happens next. You’re already treating this in a casual manner – the next step is to skip it “once in a while”. Before you know it, your floors are lucky to see a mop once a month. Don’t go there.

The Weekly Chore Schedule also contains links to articles like How to Clean a Bathroom.

Now I know we all have a good idea of how to clean a bathroom, but Heather knows tips and tricks that we don’t. Things that will make the job easier and safer too.

Finally, one of the things I like best about the Weekly Chore Schedule is that (just like me) Heather uses her time on Sunday to look ahead to the coming week and get prepared – just like my Sunday Night Plan.

You know, one of the things about being an ADD Mom is that we lose interest in things quickly. Even important things like keeping a clean home. It’s understandable; it’s boring and never ending work.

Finding a new system sometimes is just what we need to spark our interest again. Maybe Heather’s Weekly Chore Schedule will do it for you.
