Just a Little Peace

Every day, every single crazy chaotic day, you need a little peace in your life. Just a little peace.

You know what your brain is like; there’s a lot going on in there, not to mention all around you.

You most likely have people to take care of besides yourself, even if they are grown adults and perfectly capable on their own. You’ve got schedules to remember and things to do, and am I the only one who has to remember everybody’s PIN number?

You need a little peace.

Just a little peace to give yourself time to catch up, take a breath, keep yourself from just plain losing it.

peace

For many of us, me included, that means staying up extra late just to get some quiet time alone for a few minutes. And in doing so, we are missing out on some much needed sleep.

Did you know that a lack of sleep not only makes it hard to concentrate and focus, but also causes you to gain weight? Yep.

So how do you work a few moments of peace into your day without compromising some other area of your life?

Here are some ideas:

  • Get up a little bit earlier, assuming of course, that you will have had enough sleep to do so
  • Establish a 15 minute cease fire for when you first get home from work. You get 15 minutes of quiet to unwind before everyone starts assaulting you with their issues.
  • Establish a 15 minute quiet time just before bed for everyone. All of us could benefit from taking a little downtime before bed.
  • Use any opportunity you have when you find yourself alone
  • Take a walk or go to the gym
  • Lock yourself in the bathroom. Really. The Calgon lady has been onto this for years.
  • Go to the store for milk. Turn it into a calming 15 minute drive, whether or not you need milk.
  • Find hiding places at home. I can spend quite a bit of time in the laundry room before anyone comes looking for me. Obviously, if you have small children, this is not a good idea.
  • Go outside. Take a walk around your yard or house or just sit on the deck.
  • Take a nap, or just pretend to. Even if you don’t fall asleep, you will benefit from the rest.

I know how hard it is to take time for yourself when there is so much going on, but you really do need it.

Try it for a few days and see what happens.
