  1. Hi Brenda

Sorry if this is not the page to do this on but I am looking for a bit of advice about my step son. He is 16 years of age and has been picking at his clothes now for a few years. It started with socks which he would unravel from the top and now it’s his boxer shorts which he is unravelling at night in bed. We are finding clumps of thread all over his room and his underwear waste bands are all unravelled. I did google this and it could be a symptom of ADHD but he has never seen a doctor concerning this issue. I am really worried about him thanks

  2. Jackie – I had not heard of this before, but apparently it can be a symptom of ADHD, or more specifically, of anxiety, which often comes with ADHD. Have you had him diagnosed as far as anxiety goes, and if so, is he on medication for it? I really think this should be your next step, hopefully with a mental health professional.

  3. I also forgot to mention – remember until he is in his mid to late twenties, his emotional age is 3 – 5 years younger. So you’re talking about someone with a maturity level of an 11 – 13 year old.
