Something odd has been going on with me lately, although I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.
You’ve probably noticed that the look of ADD Moms has changed, and if you’re a frequent visitor, you may even have witnessed the many changes that took place over the past few days – not all of them good ones.
A couple of days ago, I spent a few hours on this site making those changes. It all went very smoothly, and in the end I had just what I wanted. It lasted all of 5 minutes before some html gremlin messed everything up.
It took a few days to fix it, and in that time I experienced a great deal of ADD frustration.
One of the more frustrating aspects to Attention Deficit Disorder is that your brain works exceptionally well one day and maybe not as well the next.
A few days ago I made some changes to the site and it only took a short while. I understood what I was doing, and it was easy. When the site crashed, though, and I had to start over, it was as though all of that knowledge had never been there in the first place. I spent 4 hours yesterday trying (and failing) to do something that took me less than 5 minutes today.
What happened? Where’s the difference?
I’m not sure I can answer that, except to say that there are many things that have an effect on ADHD symptoms:
Getting enough rest
Being adequately hydrated
The environment around you
That’s just a partial list – there is so much more that can affect ADHD symptoms. A change in one (kind of like that change in my html code) can have a huge impact on the rest.
During those frustrating times, I find the best thing to do is to walk away from whatever is frustrating you. Take a break or even put it off for a day or two. Also do a mental review of the last few days or even hours and see if you can pinpoint what is causing your symptoms to appear. That may be the answer you need in getting back on track.
