What Do You Value?

Jump to:

What do you value in your life and does the life you are living reflect those values?

Have you ever thought about that?

Or have you been too busy trying to keep up with life and your ADHD to think about it?

It’s a really important question. Do you want to get to the end of your life (and none of us know when that is) and regret the things you didn’t do or pay enough attention to? Of course not.

My husband and I are fans of A&E’s Gene Simmons Family Jewels. This season, which just started, is focusing on relationship issues between Gene and his partner Shannon.

As I understand it, Gene’s focus is on career and making money. Even at his current wealthy status, he seems to feel that it is his job to provide for his family.

Shannon, on the other hand, wants more family time and more respect for their relationship. (As I see it anyway.)

In the show we see that Gene misses Shannon very much (she left him) and that he misses his family as well. Of course he values the security that money can give his family, but he values his family too. Maybe now he will make some adjustments in his life to make things more balanced.

Now none of us are Gene Simmons, but we can learn from him.

Are your values in line with the way you are living your life? Or maybe I should ask if you are living your life in line with your values.

We all have people that we love and care for. Is that where you’re spending your time?

I know that we all have responsibilities, whether it’s a job outside the home or just keeping the house running. Money has to be made and dishes and laundry must be washed in order for us to function.

But when you get some well deserved down time, where are you spending it?

Family time or TV time? They are different things. And yes, you can all watch something you enjoy together (like Simmons Family Jewels) and consider it family time.

The point is, though, that there needs to be balance.

And what about your ADHD? How much do your symptoms get in the way of the rest of your life?

They don’t have to; at least maybe not as much as they do now.

Diet, exercise, sleep, medications, exercise – there are so many things that you could do to help.

Are you?
