10 Second Projects

Take a look around you. How many little things are piled up around your house? And by little things I mean the ones that would only take seconds to take care of or clean up.

For instance, right now there are numerous tools in my kitchen floor and on the counter. A quick pick up, but has my husband done it? Not yet. (In his defense, he is doing work on the deck so they may be needed still.)

Over a week ago I bought a 6 pack of socks. I opened them up and left them on the living room table. Each morning I would take a pair out to wear. There is still one pair in the bag which is still on the living room table. The bag makes a pretty good coaster for my tea since I haven’t been able to find coasters I like. Really. This is how I live.

I bet you can find all kinds of things around your house that would just take seconds to put away, although none would be as cool as a bag of socks as coaster.

I think that somehow this is part of our ADHD. It’s honestly the way our family lives. When we sold our last house – which we had lived in for 9 years – there were still little things to do from the day we moved in, like peeling off the painters tape from the stairwell we painted.

The fact that these are such simple, quick tasks makes us ignore them. “Oh I can get that done in no time. I need to concentrate on something bigger.”

Let’s turn that thinking around starting this week. Find some things left undone in your house that would take just a few minutes or seconds to fix. Make a list if it helps.

Then make an effort to get to them. I feel as busy as you do, but honestly we’ve all got wasted time in our lives. Do it during TV commercials if that works.

Just do it.

You’ll be amazed at how much better you and your home will feel.
