Keeping Up with Lists When You Have ADHD

Keeping Up with Lists When You Have ADHD

Jump to:

Do you keep lists? I do, although I’m not sure where all of them are 🙂

One thing I used to be really good about was writing a grocery list. Every week I would plan our meals, write down what we needed under special headings (Dairy, Meat, Produce, Frozen, etc) and then do my shopping. (You can get 2 different copies of my grocery list, plus a meal planner, for free in the Library. All you have to do is sign up below.)

Sometimes I forgot things, but most of the time it worked out OK.Keeping Up with Lists When You Have ADHD

When my husband got laid off (he went back to work today after 7 months YAY!), I started shopping at Aldi’s. I cut my grocery bill from $200 to $125. And since Aldi’s is so small, I stopped writing a list. I just pretty much bought the same stuff week after week. I still forgot things and we all got really tired of eating hamburger and chicken over and over.

Anyway, for those of us with ADHD, lists are good things if:
We can find them
They aren’t a mile long
We actually use them

After all, we’re good at forgetting and who couldn’t use a little more organization? I’m still looking for someone who can go inside my brain and organize that.

In the meantime, I found this cool little site called List Planit. It’s owned by “List Mama” which tells me that it’s a work from home mom, and I love to support moms in all they do.

Right now you can get a free one week trial and if you like it, a subscription is only $20 a year for just printing or $30 a year if you want to download files.

List Mama also has a blog, so you can check that out for free.

Hey what would happen if we all popped over to List Planit and became super organized ADDers? I bet we could rule the world!

OK, maybe not, but maybe we could find a few things now and then….

  1. You know, my mom used to shop at Aldi’s and I wouldn’t because they had brands I had never heard of.

When my husband got laid off and they built one nearby I decided it was time to try!

The brands they carry are mostly smaller companies, not off brands. Quality is excellent. The only thing we ever had an issue with is that the taco shells are sometimes stale.

You have to bring a quarter to put in your cart to use it, but you get it back when you bring the cart back to the store entrance. And bring your own bags – you’ll be bagging yourself.

Not only do I save money at Aldi’s, because it’s so small, I save time too. Takes me about 20-30 minutes tops.
