Look for the Pain

Jump to:

As ADD Moms, we have a lot to do. There is a house to keep and people to take care of and lots of other things in between.

And when you have ADHD, all of that – or even some of that – can be overwhelming.

It’s no fun to clean the house, especially when it’s a never ending job. It’s hard to keep track of everything, and the clutter seems to multiply by itself.

You know things have to change, but where do you begin?

Easy. You look for the pain.

Think about the thing that is stressing you out the most. The thing that affects your life negatively on a daily basis.

Do you worry about your bank balance and whether or not you paid the electric bill? Then it’s time to put a budget in place and set up a system for keeping track of your money and where it goes.

Do you have a panic attack every afternoon wondering what’s for dinner? Or are you like my mom who used to go to the store every day for dinner inspiration?

Time for some meal planning and once a week shopping.

What about those piles of clutter all over the house? Well, start with the one you trip over the most.

You don’t have to jump into this all at once. In fact, you probably shouldn’t.

Start by finding what’s bugging you the most. Where is your pain?

Now make a plan to attack it and get rid of it. Heal your pain.

You’ll be surprised by how much better you will feel.

  1. the problem is…everything causes me pain. my biggest time taker is the house. i have a huge family ( blended family 9 kids total, i have 5, plus my niece, and three step kids :)) and i never seem to be done just with the cleaning. the kids have their chores, but i forget to encourage them to do them, so i am beating my self up because i forget to have them clean up their messes, do their chores and then i forget to put my things away and i turn and look at my day many times and see i’ve made a full circle. morning…dirty house…lunch clean house (YAY!) kids get home from school…dirty house. bedtime….chaos, kids FINALLY get to bed, ( oh crap, did the homework get done??? shoot! the chores, no one got them done!!!) why can’t i get this right? i’ve been a mom for 23 years…what the heck!? i know with this size of family i need to be very organized and consistent, but that is a challenge for me, cuz i too have adhd (just found out last week). but not an excuse, i need babysteps and maybe i can figure this out before they put me in a “special” place. šŸ™‚
    šŸ™‚ wow!!!

  2. 9 kids???? Wow. I give you a lot of credit for making it work at all. Any changes that you add to your life will upset your ADD symptoms and make things harder to handle for a while.

If it helps at all, most moms have to do housework every day. Just cause you did it yesterday doesn’t mean you won’t have to again tomorrow. One of the reasons I hate it. šŸ™‚

Try getting your kids to all work together as a team, reminding each other to do things – you included. And setting up some routines always helps.

Maybe you should just go rent “Yours, Mine and Ours” and see how they did it? At least you might get some relaxation time. šŸ™‚
