Take 2 for ADHD

We all lead frenzied lives, but sometimes, things seem to be in overdrive.

You know what it’s like – when everything seems to hit the fan at once. Last weekend was one of those times for us.

When the stress mounts and you seem to be attacked from all sides, it can make your ADHD symptoms worse. Too much is going on, you’ve got too much to think about and deal with, and it’s easier to get distracted.

You can’t always avoid those times – stuff happens.

But there are two things you can do to help you through them and minimze the damage.

First, when you’re confronted with that kind of situation, step back, take a deep breath, and recognize it. When you are at least aware of the fact that you’re over stressed, you have a better chance of maintaining some kind of control. Reminding yourself of the fact that you’re apt to make poor decisions, or to lose focus, will help keep you together.

The other thing that you should do – and you should do it all the time, not just when you’re stressed – is to get some time for yourself and for something you enjoy. And you should make it a part of your day or your week, faithfully.

A bubble bath, a manicure, 30 minutes with a good book – whatever your idea of me time is – you should make it a habit. Believe it or not, I look forward to my time at the gym; not because I particularly like working out, but I get 30 or 40 minutes to myself, plus the remote control. 🙂

Taking this time for yourself will give your mind, body, and spirit a much needed break. Get out your planner and start working it into your schedule. You’ll be glad you did.
