Over Committed and Overwhelmed

Jump to:

Are you like me – trying to juggle too many balls at once?

I think it’s an ADD thing.

You know, we’re easily bored. And act without thinking. And have no real concept of how long things might take.

Which explains why I have 3 blogs with accompanying newsletters. Well, only 2 newsletters. And really, that’s not so bad, cause at one time I had 5.

It explains why, even though I have spent the better part of the last 6 weeks at doctor’s offices, emergency rooms, and hospitals (my daughter – she’s OK), I still felt the need to have out of town company this weekend and to offer to bring something to a 4th of July BBQ.

As ADDers, our behavior works pretty much the same as our brain. Not a big surprise, when you think about it.

So when your brain bounces from one interesting thing to the next, it’s easy for your body to get involved, too.

Hey, that looks like fun – I’ll sign up for that!

Yeah, saving vintage dryer lint is totally a great cause. I’ll volunteer!

And then when we’re not paying much attention, we get suckered into chairing the annual church pot luck and rummage sale.

At some point – it doesn’t usually take too long – we start to feel overwhelmed.

That’s when we either come to our senses or crash and burn.

Crashing and burning – well, you’ve been there. Things get out of hand, you start forgetting things and losing things, and the next thing you know, it’s one giant mess.

If you’re smart, and choose to come to your senses and start eliminating or delegating things, then good for you.

Just remember to keep it up.

Because at some point, you end up with not quite enough interesting things to keep you busy.

And you know when happens then, don’t you?

Instead, take this bit of advice a friend gave me years ago:

JUST SAY NO
