Stop, Drop, and Listen

Jump to:

No, this isn’t a post about fire safety – that’s stop, drop, and roll.

Holiday shopping? Nope. That’s shop til you drop.

So what is stop, drop, and listen?

Pretty much what it says: stop what you’re doing, drop into a comfy spot, and listen to what I have to say.

Unless your life is perfect. Then you are free to go.

Anybody else feeling like their life is crazy? (I was actually going to call this post “Crazy Is As Crazy Does”, but when I searched my site, I’ve written way too many articles about crazy).

So anyway, yes – this time of year lends itself to crazy, and having ADHD plays quite nicely with crazy too.

But that doesn’t mean that we have to stand there and take it.

I’ve had some issues with anger and who gives a s*** lately too.

And I was all prepared to write a nice little post about how we could simplify our lives and manage our time more efficiently and all would be well.

But the fact is, sometimes that’s just not true. Sometimes life sucks and you just have to deal with it.

So how do you deal with it?

Honestly? I’m not sure. But since I’m in the midst of “there must be a horse here somewhere”, I’m taking a look at what I can do – realistically and honestly – to make things better and also taking a look at what I did to get me to where I am.

Hint: I spent most of my day in the car carting other people around. Did they need it? Yes. Did it have to be me? Pretty much.

But – how do I choose to react to that, to feel about it? I can choose to be angry and feel put upon and throw myself a big old pity party, but what would that do?

Can I find it in myself to look for the blessings and the good side of my life right now? Well, that’s an uphill battle at present, but something to think about.

But what about you?

Are you doing too much for others? Or more importantly, are you doing for others and not yourself? Because that’s one key – it’s OK to do for others as long as you do for yourself too.

Are there stressors in your life that you can change or eliminate? Are you sure?

Where are your crazy times? Time is a big one for me. I just don’t know where it goes.

Are you over scheduling yourself? Hint: if you offered to make individual gingerbread houses for the Brownie troop that looks like each girl’s Barbie dream house, you’re over scheduled. And crazy.

There are all kinds of tips out there right now that will tell you how to make things easier and make more of your time. And when the retailers switch from Christmas mode to “it’s a new year and time for a fresh start”, there will be even more.

But for right now?

Here’s what I want you to do, every single day, no matter what.

Stop, drop, and listen.

Listen to some holiday carols. Listen to the fire in the fireplace. Listen to children saying their prayers or writing to Santa. Listen to your heart. Listen to the silence and appreciate it all.
