5 Secrets of A Good Night’s Sleep

Getting enough good quality sleep is vitally important for your overall health and your ADHD symptoms. Did you know that chronic lack of sleep can cause you to gain weight???

Being well rested can make a huge difference in how your symptoms affect you. Here are 5 secrets to getting a good night’s sleep.

1. Turn off all electronic devices at least an hour or two before bedtime. These devices emit a blue light that interferes with your hypothalamus – the part of your brain that controls sleep – and delays the release of melatonin, which helps you sleep.

2. Stick to a consistent eating schedule. For instance, if you normally eat dinner at a certain time, but eat later or snack later on the weekends, it interferes with sleep.

3. If you smoke, stop. The nicotine in cigarettes is a stimulant, and as such, will keep you awake.

4. Charge your electronic devices in another room. The small light that shows it’s charging – especially if it’s blue – is enough to disturb your circadian rhythm and disrupt sleep.

5. Wash your face with warm water rather than finishing with a cold splash. That cold shock stimulates your body to produce energy to warm you up and interferes with your sleep.
