Gifts?
When we talk about ADHD, we rarely talk about gifts; not unless we are being sarcastic.
But there actually are some gifts that come along with ADHD, in addition to the ones you may wish you didn’t get.
Creativity is one of them, and so is being able to see connections between things that others don’t.
There are more, but the ones I that I want to talk to you about now are a little out of the norm. A little “out there” maybe.
The P Word
I’ve been studying ADHD for over 30 years, and there is one subject that seems to come up now and then about people with ADHD. In fact, you hear about it for a while, then not again for years.
The P word is psychic.
Don’t leave me yet!
I’m not here to prove to you that we can all talk to the dead or something like that. (Well I guess we all can talk to the dead; having them answer, however….).
But I do want to open this conversation (and our minds) up, because it is something that is talked about and discussed when it comes to people with ADHD, although, admittedly, it’s rare.
And not necessarily talking to the dead (although that’s part of it), but also having abilities such as heightened awareness, intuition, increased empathy, and pre-cognition.
For what it’s worth, I have very strong intuition (but I’ve learned to trust and use it), and if anyone I care about is hurt, I physically hurt as well.
I would love to hear about any abilities you have.
Indigo Children
In the early nineties, I started hearing about Indigo children. These were supposed to be children born in the nineties who had incredible spiritual wisdom and psychic powers. (There are also others who say these children began to be born in the late 70’s.)
They were highly intelligent, sort of old souls in a child’s body. Insomnia, depression, easily bored, independent, didn’t like rules. Sort of like lots of kids, especially those with ADHD, right?
In fact, many had been diagnosed with ADHD, but this was apparently inaccurate and was in fact the reason that we had experienced a rise in the number of ADHD diagnoses in the past few decades.
They were apparently here to teach “lessons” to the world.
Indigo children are not recognized by mainstream science or psychology.
Energetic Blocks
Most recently, a colleague of mine, Tara McGillicuddy, has been talking about energetic blocks and how they can affect our ADHD. (I tried to contact Ms. McGillicuddy but she has not responded to my requests.)
Her premise is that when we get stuck and can’t move forward due to our ADHD symptoms, there may be energetic blocks in place which are preventing progress.
She acknowledges that while the ADHD community has addressed brain based treatments and physical (body) treatments, no one has talked about energetic therapies.
While I couldn’t find a link on her site to an actual article about this, I did listen to her presentation on The Succeed with ADHD Telesummit back in July 2018. I was very anxious to hear what she had to say, and was disappointed because I felt that she was not given enough time to fully discuss the matter.
She does have a podcast about this, although, again, there was far less information than I would have liked.
Ms. McGillicuddy says that, as people with ADHD, we are exposed to more negative energy than most, and that it’s possible for our bodies to hold onto it.
And if we hold onto it, is there a way to release it?
I couldn’t find a definitive answer to this as it relates to ADHD, and again, I’d like to point out that this entire post is based on a subject that many would reject.
Some of the suggestions include:
- Eating certain foods
- Making certain sounds (these first two were from Deepak Chopra’s website)
- Meditating
I would also think that stress relieving things such as yoga or massage might work, but I fail to see how they might target energy blocks related to ADHD.
Any ideas or thoughts on this?

Tell me what you think!
