Eat Your Fruits and Veggies!

Jump to:

I don’t have to tell you that fruits and veggies are good for you and that you should eat them. That’s what your mother is for. 🙂

But did you know that some fruits and vegetables are better for you than others?

In general, those fruits and vegetables that have more color are better for you. So some red cabbage or dark green spinach or kale is better than iceberg lettuce.

Here is a list of some of the fruits and veggies that are especially good for brain function (aka less ADHD symptoms):

Blackberries are good for reducing inflammation within the brain which blocks the neurotransmitters from communicating. This inflammation is not a result of sickness, just aging, so by reducing it, your brain can function more like it did when you were younger.

Apples contain a plant chemical that protects the outer lining of your neurons. As the neuron’s outer layer wears away, our ability to think declines. You want to still be sharp when you’re 103, so an apple a day is a great idea!

Spinach also helps prevent cognitive decline, helping you stay alert and on the ball no matter what your age.

Concord grape juice and red wine help boost your memory, especially verbal learning and spatial memory.

Avacados are rich in good fat, which is good for brain health. They also work to help lower blood pressure, which can be a factor in cognitive decline.

Beans can help your brain maintain a steady supply of glucose, which it needs to function properly and which it cannot store.

Citrus fruits have strong antioxidant properties, which help protect the body and the brain against damage from free radicals. Your brain is the first to suffer damage from free radicals because of it’s delicate nature, so it’s important to protect it.

Finally, while they are neither fruits nor vegetables, coffee, tea, and chocolate are also good for your brain function. You’re welcome.
