Get Some Exercise!

Jump to:

Maybe you don’t want to hear it, but exercise is good for you. You should do some every day. (Do as I say, not as I do). 😉

I’ve fallen off the exercise wagon lately, but when you consider all of the health benefits, it really is a good idea to try and add some activity into each day.

You know that exercise can help you lose or maintain your weight, sleep better, and of course it can keep your heart healthy, but did you know it’s also good for your ADHD symptoms?

It’s true. Studies have shown that regular exercise – as little as 20 – 30 minutes a day – can help your brain function better and minimize your ADHD symptoms.

Exercise or physical activity actually sort of lights up the brain, making it easier to focus, pay attention, sequence, and remember.

In fact, some schools are finding it more effective to discipline disruptive behavior in class by having the student do 10 minutes or so of physical exercise, such as jogging or riding a stationary bike. The result is less disruptive behavior and more focus, which improves learning.

Now before you run out and join a gym – or dust off your membership card – think about this: you can do something as simple as walking and get the benefits associated with exercise. You can walk in your neighborhood, with a friend, or at the mall.

If that sounds like too much, start parking a little bit farther away when you go somewhere. Every little bit helps.
