CoQ10 and MitoQ

As noted above, I was given a bottle of MitoQ in order to try it and review it for you. Because I am a proponent of natural, healthy habits in general, I was already aware of CoQ10, which is an antioxidant that can be helpful in improving brain health.

MitoQ is sort of a next generation CoQ10 because, as I understand it, it manages to deliver the antioxidant CoQ10 directly to the mitochondria better than has been done before.

It “…helps repair mitochondrial dysfunction, significantly reduces oxidative damage to cells and by association supports heart, liver, and brain health while assisting in the increase of energy, libido and healthy aging.” Quote sourced from the website.

While it doesn’t specifically address ADHD symptoms, I believe that anything that can improve brain health is worth looking into.

About Mitochondria

If you’re like me and love those true crime shows like Dateline, then you’ve heard the word mitochondria before, in relation to DNA.

And you’re probably wondering what this has to do with your brain and ADHD.

The mitochondria in a cell (in addition to helping solve crimes) is responsible for the energy within the cell by breaking down nutrients and converting them into energy. Source.

So healthy mitochondria equals a healthy brain and body.

My Results

I have been taking MitoQ for about two weeks now and I have to say I noticed a difference right away. The first day I took it, I felt more alert and energetic than I normally do. In fact it was enough of a change that I wondered what was going on.

Later that evening, I happened to pick up the paperwork that had come along with the bottle of MitoQ and read it. Aha! I knew that it was good for brain health, but I never knew about the added energy and alertness.

I don’t know if I would say that the added energy has continued since I began taking it. In general, the effects of things like supplements and herbs are more subtle than you would find if you took a drug instead.

As purely an aside – tonight when I was preparing for this article, I visited the site for the first time and I noticed one woman remarking on the fact that her dark aging spots had improved considerably. I ran upstairs to get my magnifying mirror cause I have one dark spot on my face that bothers me, and sure enough, it had lightened up.

About the Product and the Company

MitoQ was developed by Dr. Michael Murphy of Cambridge and Professor Rob Smith of Otago University, New Zealand after many years of research.

Overall I would give MitoQ a positive review.

Be sure to visit the MitoQ site to learn more as there is a great deal of information available.

  1. I was curious what you thought after you finished the bottle & if you were tempted to carry on? Good post by the way đŸ™‚

  2. I’ve tried this for 3 months now. Only one thing I have noticed, but it is significant. My circulation problem to the legs has gotten better. I used to get pins and needles in my toes every night for the last 8 years, but that has largely cleared up now. I intend to keep up with the MitoQ for another 3 months to see if anything else shows up. There might be some anti-inflammatory property, but it’s too weak to be obvious so far. One piece of crucial information is missing on this supplement. How long does it last in the body if you quit taking it? (ie, the half-life) If it gets cheaper, I may continue using it.

  3. Don – I heard back from MitoQ customer service. How long the effects last is dependent on a number of factors including your overall health so it’s hard to say. In general, the more results you feel from it, the sooner you will notice it’s absence. And yes, the improved circulation is one effect in addition to improved muscle strength and movement. Obviously continued use is the best way to go.
