Depression + Depression?

Depression can often come along with ADHD.

Maybe you know that. Maybe you even are being treated for depression, like me.

But did you know that despite being treated for depression, it’s still possible to become more depressed?

I’ve been taking medication for depression for years. It’s been working for years.

And yet lately, I’ve been out of sorts. No motivation or energy. Overeating. Sleeping too much.

Classic signs of depression.

I think the time of year and our weather has something to do with it.

It’s been a long, gray winter. And now that spring is here, our weather is cold and gray.

The weather (and lack of sunshine) can affect your mood.

And if you live in the northern hemisphere, chances are you are Vitamin D deficient, making you more likely to become depressed.

I stopped taking Vitamin D a few months ago, mostly because I ran out and just forgot to buy any more. You know how that goes.

So for me, that’s my first step in feeling better – buy some Vitamin D and start taking it.

I’m also going to try and get more exercise, especially outside – if it ever quits raining.

Most likely, this is something that will pass. A little help won’t hurt.

If you feel as though you are depressed, even though you’re being treated for it, do some detective work. What have you stopped doing? What’s your life like right now? Stressful? Chaotic?

Try some small extra measures like I am doing and see if it works.

And after a week or two, if you still don’t feel better, see your doctor. It’s possible that you need some sort of change in your medication or even counseling.

Whatever you do, don’t ignore it or just assume that this is the way life has to be. It doesn’t.
