Sometimes living life with ADHD can lead to excessive behavior – overeating, over spending, too many drinks (alcoholic or not), maybe even too many pills.
Excessive behavior of any kind isn’t healthy. Even if your excessive behavior is going to the gym too many times a week.
People with ADHD have poor impulse control. An idea looks good in the moment and the next thing you know, we’ve gone for it without stopping to think of the consequences.
In addition, we’re often prone to anxiety and depression. The need to self medicate to handle the symptoms of ADHD, anxiety, or depression (or a combination of them) can also lead to excessive behavior.
We try to cope the best way that we can and in the process can end up doing more harm than good.
No one has to tell you if you are behaving excessively; you already know it. You may not be willing to admit it, but deep down inside, you know.
Of course, those who love you will tell you anyway, and that’s a good thing. Even if you still don’t want to hear it.
The bottom line here is that, regardless of what particular behavior you practice to excess, you need some help to stop. There are lots of places for that: professional therapists, counselors, self help groups, your church, maybe your family and friends.
