Stress Relief

Jump to:

Have you worn yourself to a frazzle yet with all that you’ve been doing? The holidays can be joyful, but they can be stressful too. Whether it’s getting ready for the holidays, or dealing with the relatives (or both) that’s causing you stress, the fact is that more stress equals more ADHD symptoms. Add in a little sleep deprivation and a less than healthful diet and you have all the makings for trouble.

Here are a few ideas for relieving your stress; I hope they work for you.

STOP. Just stop and rest for a couple of minutes. Have a seat, close your eyes and just breathe for a while. Try not to think about all you have to do; instead think of something calm and serene.

Do a downward dog pose for a few minutes. It looks like this:

Downward Dog

Downward dog is easy to do, plus it relieves stress, clears the mind and helps with depression.

Stop trying to do it all and do it perfectly. The holidays are about family and time together, not an endless supply of perfectly wrapped presents or a 12 course meal.

Tonight, make yourself some herbal tea or hot chocolate, sit down and enjoy it, and then go to bed early. You need the rest.

Start delegating and simplifying. Let someone else help you with what needs to be done, and let them do it their way. Eliminate anything unnecessary.

Finally, take the time to just enjoy yourself. That’s the best gift of all.

  1. Thank you…thank you. I discovered that I have ADHD this summer after my son was diagnosed. I am trying to learn how to simplify my life in addition to learning about ADHD in itself. And trying to not overwhelm myself has been challenging. Especially this time of year.
I’ve found your site very helpful and wanted to thank you.
    Happy Holidays,
