As ADD Moms, we are in charge of taking care of our families. We get people where they need to be, hopefully on time. We make the meals and provide clean clothes to wear and generally keep everything running.
At least we try.
As ADD Moms, those kinds of things can be hard for us to keep up with.
We’re all so busy these days. It can be a huge task to remember to do everything on our list, to always be on time and on task, and to do it all while we are living our lives and maintaining a household.
I don’t know about you, but often, especially when I am stressed, I tend to approach things in a sort of fire fighting mode.
Rather than putting out the biggest fires first, though, I try to put out the ones that are right in front of me. My reasoning is that if I can get the things that are stressing me right this minute, I can slow down and take care of the others.
The problem with that, though, is that what is stressing me right this minute might be less important than other things that aren’t on my mind at the moment.
Because we are easily distracted.
It’s like swatting at a mosquito that’s buzzing around you driving you nuts and not noticing that the deck has caught fire.
I know that we are not linear people prone to making a list of things to do and then prioritizing them so that we get the most important ones done first, but we need to learn to be.
All of us have some way (effective or not) of keeping track of what needs to be done. For some of us, that list lives in our head. Not a good idea, by the way.
Start to make a habit of reviewing that list every day, either first thing in the morning, or last thing at night. Set a daily alarm on your cell phone to remind you to check it.
Then pick 1 or 2 things as priorities and make sure those get done right away.
I promise you: following this one thing faithfully can change your life for the better.
