Once a Month

I have been feeling super productive and organized lately. (Don’t worry. I’m sure it won’t last long. ;))

I’ve put a new budget plan in place and vowed not to give up when it doesn’t work right the first time. I am anticipating that I will make mistakes but instead of quitting and calling it a failure, I will learn from it and adjust.

I’ve also got a lot of things that need to be done around the house. You know, those things that float around in your head and you sometimes think of them and say, “Oh yeah. I should take care of that”.

Well in all my organized splendor I have come up with a plan. And like my budget, I will expect mistakes and make adjustments rather than quit altogether.

I am going to start by making a list of all of those things that I want to get to “one day”.

Then I am going to chose 12 of them and put them on my calendar. One for each month.

See, we ADD Moms are good at making plans, but not so good at actually carrying them out to completion.

The act of identifying projects that you want to do and then adding them to your calendar takes you one step closer to actually doing them.

Now I can’t promise that this once a month method will help you get those projects completed. It takes way more than writing it on your calendar to do that.

But it is a first step and hopefully a good start.

If you want to join me on this adventure, be sure to choose reasonable projects. Remodel the kitchen or clean out the garage might be too much.

I’m aiming for smaller things, like finally getting my messy recipe collection into shape.

Oh and you should probably break down that once a month project into smaller steps and put those on the calendar throughout the month.

So if I decide to do my recipe collection this month, my first step might be to round all of my recipes up into one place so that I have them all together. And it would probably be good to find a place to work on them so I’m not always having to clean up my mess while I work. That means the kitchen table is out.

Choosing 12 small projects to work on throughout the year and then scheduling them into your planner sounds like a doable thing. And think how organized and productive you’ll be!
