Keeping the House Clean

Jump to:

Keeping the house clean and neat seems to be a universal problem for ADD Moms.

It’s no fun cleaning house and even less fun when it hasn’t been done in a while. It’s overwhelming and frustrating because you can do it once and still have to do it again over and over.

There are a lot of systems out there that can help you set up a housekeeping routine. One I have recently started using is an iPhone app called Home Routines. It’s not a free app; right now it costs $4.99 but to me it was well worth it. You can also get it for your iPad.

Home Routines is based on Flylady’s zone system with morning and evening routines as well as weekly routines.

This little app comes loaded with pre-set routines and pretty much follows Flylady’s zone schedule. (I thought Flylady used 4 zones, and maybe she does. Home Routines uses 5.)

I started using Home Routines over the weekend. We have been doing a lot of painting and remodeling and the house was a real mess. Taking just a few minutes at a time each day, I have accomplished the following since Sunday:

Note: Not all of this was on the Home Routines list but after using the app I was inspired to do it.

Straightened up the living room
Kitchen floor mopped
Stove and microwave cleaned
Table wiped down twice each day
Dusted the downstairs and our bedroom
Took care of the cobwebs
Dusted the bedroom baseboard molding (I don’t think I’ve ever done this)
Did several loads of laundry
Tidied up the bedroom – it was a mess!

The thing is, I am enjoying the feeling of a clean home and yet don’t feel as though I have done that much. Each time I do something it inspires me to keep going.

What’s even better is the website. I found and installed the app right from my iPod Touch so I didn’t realize right away that a website even existed until I went to the help section in the app. The site is amazing! Tons of resources, a blog, and more.

If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch, I would highly suggest that you check this app out.

And if you don’t, here’s what Habit Hacker has to say:

Highly recommended for anyone with an iphone. Even worth getting an iphone just to run it.
