You know Larry the Cable Guy and his famous line “Get er done” right?

Well, as ADDers, that’s one of the things that we have a lot of trouble with – getting things done.

We may be good at making lists, but not so good at crossing off the completed things. That’s probably because there aren’t a lot of things we completed.

One of the ways to get around this is to break down your to do list into small action steps.

For instance, maybe one of your tasks is to clean the kitchen. That’s a pretty generalized statement. What exactly needs to be done in order for the kitchen to be clean? I find it easy to ask “how am I going to do that?”

One of the things that is probably part of that is to do the dishes.

But doing the dishes is composed of several steps: unloading the dishwasher, rinsing the dishes, and loading the dishwasher. Or running a sink full of soapy water, washing, rinsing, and drying the dishes and then putting them away.

So doing the dishes involves a number of smaller steps.

Break things down into the smallest steps you can. Write them down on a 3 x 5 card – dishes at the top, then all of the smaller steps.

Whenever you find yourself with a few extra minutes, pull out one of your cards and do one of the things on the list. Most will probably take 15 minutes or less. This is a great idea for television commercial time, too.

You can get a lot more done than you think by utilizing this system. Give it a try.
