Speed Cleaning Tips

Jump to:

Even though I am “officially” back to 2 good arms (YAY!), I still hate to clean the house.

And yet it must be done.

Here are a few random ideas that work for me:

Disinfectant wipes. Keep them in the kitchen to wipe down the countertops and stove. In the bathroom for the sink (first) and then the toilet seat.

Crap baskets. Don’t you love that name? So perfect! I can’t take credit, though. Karen from Sew Many Ways came up with it and it’s brilliant! Basically a set of cute baskets that stack on your stairs. As you’re picking up, each person’s crap gets tossed into their basket. Then either you take it upstairs and put it away or they do. (The main part of the post is about a gate she made for her dog. Scroll to the bottom for the baskets. And don’t worry – no sewing required.)

Speaking of crap, clear the clutter. Clutter in your environment makes your house look messy and harder to clean. Plus, how can you be sharp and focused with all of that stuff around? Try to clear some every day. Even 5 minutes counts!

Make it pretty. I have this little side table sort of thing in the living room at one end of the sectional. I spent some time on it and really love it, so I’m always careful about keeping it clean and clutter free.

Wipe as you go. Take a couple of minutes each day to keep things looking clean and nice. Use those disinfectant wipes in the kitchen and bathroom every day. A quick swish of the toilet is good too. We have also made a habit of using a squeegee on our shower doors after every shower. And a new thing I’m trying is to wipe down the shower walls each time with a kitchen scrubber filled with a mixture of vinegar and Dawn dishwashing liquid. It’s the kind with the plastic handle that holds the soap. A little each day takes just minutes and the result is well worth it!
