1 Plan + 1 Hour = More Organized

With the right plan, an hour or so, and some stick to it-ness, your house can become more organized and less cluttered.

Now I’m not saying one hour will get the whole house done – who are you? Superwoman?

What I am saying is that setting aside about an hour’s worth of time a couple of times a week and working according to a plan can get your home considerably more organized without a lot of stress.

Here’s the plan: choose one room or one part of a room if it’s that cluttered.

Schedule one hour where you won’t be interrupted. Turn off your phone.

Gather any supplies you might need like garbage bags, laundry baskets, cleaning supplies, rags, etc. Be sure to include a timer, and don’t forget some great music to get you moving!

Set your timer for 10 – 15 minutes and tackle your first area. Clear out the trash first and then put anything that doesn’t belong there in a laundry basket to be sorted later.

Once you’re down to what belongs there, you can clear the surfaces and clean them.

When the timer goes off, stop working and take a short break. Stand back and admire your efforts.

Take a minute or two to regroup and then decide where your next area of attack is going to be. You may want to continue on with what you were doing or start someplace else.

After an hour, clean up and put your supplies away. Don’t forget to take care of that laundry basket full of stuff that belongs someplace else. You can put things away yourself, or delegate that to their owners.

Now give yourself a well deserved reward!
