IKEA and ADHD

Last weekend while we were in Michigan we got a chance to visit the IKEA store because it was near our daughter’s house.

I want to sell everything I own and IKEA-ize my house.

This is really an amazing company with an unique vision. They focus on keeping prices low, packaging as minimal as possible, and get as much use out of your space as possible.

The store is enormous. So much so, in fact, that my younger daughter felt a little overwhelmed and had to step outside for a while. The crowds didn’t help either.

What I really liked about the IKEA store was all of the little rooms and apartments they had set up showing how to use their products.

Caitlin has an apartment with less than 600 sq ft, so she was very interested to see all that fit into a 585 sq foot apartment.

What I loved were all of the ideas for organization.

For instance, right now my kitchen towels get tossed on the side of the basement steps until they get washed. I don’t know where else to put them.

Now that I’ve been to IKEA, I can see that getting a mesh bag to hang on the wall or a narrow basket to sit next to the stairs would be a much better and more attractive solution.

And all of those magazines that we seem to collect and not want to part with?

How about storing them in a few of these?

Assorted colors and 2 for $3.99!

And Caitlin found these in one of the bathroom display drawers full of make-up. We all fell in love with that!

If you don’t have an IKEA near you, you can always shop online or order a catalog. And even if you choose to shop at the dollar store instead of IKEA, you can still pick up some great organizing ideas.
