Exercise and AD/HD

Jump to:

Do you like exercise? Neither do I. You know it’s good for all sorts of things, including weight loss and staying healthy, not to mention looking better.

But that’s not why I do it. I exercise faithfully, at least 3 times a week, for 3 reasons:

    To keep my heart healthy.
To keep my body in good working order.
    To manage my ADD symptoms.

Did you know that regular, heart beating exercise can help the symptoms of Attention Deficit Disorder? It’s true. There have been several recent studeis that confirmed it. Subjects with AD/HD who exercised reported greater clarity of thought and lessened ADD symptoms, sometimes for as long as 24 hours. That alone is enough to get me into the gym.

Why don’t you give exercise another try, not because you want to lose 20 pounds, but because you want a clearer head? When you think of it that way, every little bit helps. You don’t have to do 30 minutes on the treadmill, just do what you can when you can, and see if you notice a difference.
