Are you like me? Do you feel as though you rarely have the time to breathe, much less get everything done that you need to accomplish?
I end most days exhausted and feeling as though I’ve still got a mountain of things left to do.
A lot of what we do, though, is the same old stuff over and over again. Wash dishes today, you’ll have to wash them tomorrow.
Now I can’t help you with the dishes thing, other than suggesting a dish washer or housekeeper, but there are other ways to put your life on auto pilot.
If you can find ways to get things done automatically without having to do them yourself, then you’ve saved time for things that really need your attention.
Here are five suggestions:
1. Put your money on auto pilot. Have an account for bills and another for spending. Figure out how much of your money needs to go into the bills account each pay period and then have your bank do an automatic transfer each time.
Next, set your bills up to be deducted automatically each month from that account. Done!
2. Work out a series of menus for dinners. Try to come up with at least 14 if you cook every day; 21 or 28 would be even better. Rotate through your plan for 2-4 weeks and then repeat. If you want, you can go the extra mile and make a master grocery list of what is needed for each week’s meals plus the things you buy regularly. An hour or two invested here will save tons later. As alternatives, you could check out a meal planning service – there are lots online – or subscribe to Womans Day magazine. Each month they plan an entire months meals for you.
3. Consider gradually overhauling your wardrobe. If you work in a place that requires you to dress in a special way – say office casual – then begin to collect pieces that work with one another. Start with neutrals for your pants, skirts and jackets or cardigans. Choose a few colors that look good on you and that work with one another. The idea is to be able to pull any combination of pants, blouse, jacket out of the closet and have it go together.
Do the same for your casual wardrobe. And don’t forget shoes! Have a few pairs that you can rely on.
4. Set up some automatic housecleaning habits. Did you know that there are people who take a moment to wipe out the bathroom sink and dry the counter after they wash their hands? Bet they don’t have as much trouble cleaning their bathrooms as we do. And I bet their bathroom looks presentable most of the time.

5. Time management is a big problem for ADD Moms. You may not be able to put your time on auto pilot, but you can do a few things. Choose one day of the week for appointments. That way it will become habit to check for any appointments you may have.
For appointments that reoccur every few weeks, like hair appointments, schedule your next one before you leave the salon.
And finally, always allow yourself extra time. A good rule of thumb is to estimate how long you think something will take and then double it.
