Why You MUST Take Care of Yourself

Jump to:

One of the things that I’m constantly talking about is the need for moms – and especially ADD Moms – to take better care of themselves.

We’re really good at taking care of others and at putting ourselves last, but that’s not the way it’s supposed to be.

When you take good care of yourself, you have more to give to others.

Get a good night’s sleep most nights, eat healthy good for you food, exercise for energy and your ADD brain, and take care of your outward appearance too.

What does all of this have to do with having Attention Deficit Disorder?

Plenty.

A good night’s sleep helps you focus and pay attention. It helps your brain function more effectively.

A healthy diet with lots of lean protein and colorful fruits and veggies feeds your body and your brain. A healthy brain can function better.

Exercise has been proven to lessen ADHD symptoms – sometimes for as much as 24 hours. You can focus and concentrate more easily. That alone is worth it!

But what about focusing on your outward appearance – how does that help ADHD?

Lots of ways. Really.

A good diet, lots of sleep and exercise can make you feel better on the inside, but you need to feel good on the outside too.

Depression, low self esteem, and social anxiety are all things that can come along when you have ADHD. Feeling good inside and out will lessen depression, boost your self esteem and your confidence. It’s also a wonderful positive message to send to your kids – especially daughters.

Taken as a whole, all of these things can contribute to an overall healthier you – and that’s the best thing of all.

When you take the time to take care of yourself, you literally have more time to give to those you love.
