Have you ever been stuck? Not in a line or a traffic jam or the mud.
I mean ADD kind of stuck.
You know, when you’ve got a to do list a mile long, the laundry is 12 feet high, and there’s no food in the house and yet you can’t seem to do anything.
It’s as though you have so much to do that it’s completely overwhelming. You don’t know where to begin and you have no motivation to do anything.
Those kinds of days are awful. They can really make you feel bad about yourself.
And the worst thing is that it’s easy for those kinds of days to turn into weeks or months. It’s how things can get completely out of control.
So how do you get unstuck? How do you reverse this downward spiral and pull yourself out of it?
Two words: take action.
I know, that’s easier said than done.
But the fact is that you have to do it.
You can’t wait around waiting for things to change.
You can’t wait for motivation or inspiration, hoping it will show up sometime soon.
No. You have to take the bull by the horns, so to speak, and kick your own butt into action.
Now I’m not suggesting that you motivate yourself into crossing off everything on your to do list and clean your house until it shines. That’s how you got overwhelmed in the first place.
No. Getting unstuck needs baby steps.
I’ve got two for you. You can choose one or the other or both.
1. Call a positive friend; someone who can cheer you up and motivate you to do something. Remember, it needs to be small. Put a load of laundry in. Or just sort the laundry. Do one tiny thing on your to do list. And then promise your friend that you will call her back as soon as you do it. More positive reinforcement. 🙂
2. Be your own cheerleader. Pick a small task and do it. Got a phone call you are putting off? Look up the number, write it down, and call it done for now. Mopping the kitchen floor too much of a job? Mop half of it. Got a messy room? Clean up one corner or one pile.
Get the idea?
Just begin.
Maybe getting one thing done will get you unstuck. Maybe not. Maybe you could do another small thing.
However much you do, and however much you have left to do, just focus on the positive. If you’ve done just one thing, you have less to do than you did before.
Focus on your accomplishments and you’ll be unstuck in no time.

Perfect timing! My sister and I were just talking about how we feel stuck and blah! Funny how I came across this a few hours after our call. Thanks for reminding me to just move forward.
