What Are Your Daily Essentials?

Jump to:

Do you have daily essentials? The things that you just can’t get through the day without?

I bet coffee (or Diet Coke) is one of them.

For me, it’s water and tea. I used to drain everyone’s coffee cups from Sunday dinner when I was about 2 or 3 years old and I guess that somehow kept me from ever becoming a coffee drinker. 🙂

So what other things are on your list besides caffeine?

Do you take certain medications or vitamins?

How about a good night’s sleep or some exercise? I recently got back from a business trip to New Jersey and exercise was the one thing I really missed. I seemed to spend most of my time sitting.

Do you have certain routines to your day? Maybe some yoga or meditation? Maybe you read the morning newspaper every morning or take the dog for a walk.

Routines are important. They help those of us with ADHD keep some sort of order in our lives.

Your daily essentials are those things or routines that you absolutely need to get through the day. The things that must be in place even if you don’t do another thing all day. The things that help you function in a sane and rational way.

Think about what your daily essentials are. Do you have healthy ones, geared towards good self care? Are you taking good care of yourself and making sure to do so every day?

If not, why not? And when are you going to start?

Who’s going to take care of you if you don’t?

Here’s my list of what daily habits are essential:

    A good night’s sleep
Lean protein at least twice a day
Fruits and veggies with lots of color
Plenty of water throughout the day
Exercise or just plain moving your body
    Time spent outside
Some time – no matter how little – spent on calming and centering
Meds, vitamins and herbs – what works for you

Oh, and yeah – some caffeine. 😉

  1. Very nice post. I just stumbled upon your weblog and wished to say that I’ve truly enjoyed browsing your blog posts. After all I’ll be subscribing to your rss feed and I hope you write again soon!

  2. Found your websites (student and Moms) while searching on the need for proper hydration especially for those with ADHD. It’s becoming a common contention between my wife and I when we are having a heated discussion that I try to get her to drink some water and we’ll revisit the issue with calmer minds.
I enjoy your direct and concise blogging style and I look forward to browsing some of your other articles. Definitely like your daily essential habits. Good advice for anyone and I know my days definitely go better by incorporating such healthy habits.

  3. Loved reading your comment about getting your wife to drink some water. I can imagine how well that goes over 😉

    Thanks for commenting.

  4. To keep track of all these routines, write them down in a small notebook, one category per page. For example you can write in one page all the daily routines that you want to follow, and in the next page your weekly routines and so on. Make sure that you constantly look at your list so that you never forget about them.
